PesaWire – Mobile Money and Payments Platform for Uganda
PesaWire is a multi-interface mobile money and payments platform developed for Uganda. An Android app, digital wallet and transfer workflows, bill payments, institution and forex-bureau portals, and a bulk payout system share a connected backend.

PesaWire - Mobile Money & Payments Platform for Uganda
About the project
Building a multi-interface mobile money platform for Uganda
PesaWire is a fintech software platform developed for Uganda's mobile money ecosystem. It brings wallet workflows, peer-to-peer transfers, bill and institution payments, and business collections into a connected product architecture. The engineering scope spans an Android application, web-based administration tools, institution and forex-bureau portals, a bulk payout interface, and the backend API supporting these experiences.
The software was developed through a technical collaboration for the Uganda-based organization operating the Pesa Wire brand. Vectorium Technology's role covers software engineering, transaction workflow design, application development and supporting infrastructure. The development of the platform should not be confused with the commercial launch of regulated payment services. PesaWire's official website states that Bank of Uganda PSP/PSO licensing is still in progress and that service launch is subject to approval.
What was built
On mobile, the application includes registration and sign-in with Ugandan phone numbers, PIN-confirmed outgoing transaction workflows, phone-number and QR-based transfer flows, wallet deposit handling and QR-assisted cash withdrawal scenarios. Bill payment workflows cover use cases such as electricity, water, internet, television, school fees and government payments. Institution-specific reference fields are included for relevant URA and NSSF payment scenarios.
Separate web interfaces address distinct operational roles. The forex bureau portal supports rate management and verification of customer withdrawal codes. The institution portal provides collection views and settlement-request workflows. A bulk payout portal handles CSV payment batches and refund flows for unsuccessful entries. The administration panel brings together KYC review, support tickets, account and institution management, and audit logging.
Transaction integrity and security design
A double-entry ledger model, atomic transactions designed to guard against concurrent-operation errors, and hashed transaction PINs form part of the backend design. Failed-attempt lockouts and auditable operational records add controls around transaction workflows. These are software implementation details, not claims of completed regulatory certification, independent security audits or live payment processing.
Engineering stack
The backend uses NestJS, Node.js, TypeScript, Prisma and PostgreSQL. The Android application is built with React Native and Expo. Web applications use React, Vite and Tailwind CSS, with Zustand, React Router and Recharts across relevant components. API documentation is based on OpenAPI/Swagger, while the automated test stack includes Jest, Vitest and Playwright.
Docker and Caddy support the self-hosted server environment. GitHub Actions is used for automated testing and release workflows. Together, these components illustrate the work involved in designing a financial software platform with different interfaces, user roles, transaction records and operational responsibilities.
Development and release status
The supplied repository history identifies 3 May 2026 as the start of development. Project records also identify 2 June 2026 as the date an MTN MoMo developer account and sandbox subscription were obtained. Software development is ongoing. This case study does not claim that PesaWire has received its payment-service licence or launched regulated payment operations. No public Google Play listing has been verified, so no store link is presented.
What Vectorium contributed
Vectorium Technology worked on the engineering of PesaWire's connected software platform. Its scope includes the NestJS and PostgreSQL backend API and transaction data model; the React Native/Expo Android application; React-based administration, institution and forex-bureau interfaces; and the CSV-based bulk payout portal.
The implementation includes a double-entry ledger design, atomic transaction workflows, transaction-PIN validation, KYC review screens and audit records. Docker and Caddy were used for the server environment, and GitHub Actions for automated testing and deployment workflows. This describes software development responsibilities, not possession of a payment licence, a production payment launch or verified transaction volumes.
